If you’ve read any of my Posts, it may be obvious that I’m a big fan of The Book of Luke and his detailed and nuanced accounts. They’re so full of seeds for rich revelation. So something that caught my attention as I read through The Gospel this time, was the role of The Holy Spirit and how instrumental He was, not only in Jesus’ entrance into the earth, but the role He played throughout Jesus’ ministry. Did you know there are at least eight instances where the presence of The Holy Spirit precedes a pivotal event? I won’t detail them all here, and I’m only up to chapter 17 in my re-read, so perhaps there are more accounts to come that I’ve previously overlooked. But if you haven’t already done so, I encourage you to read the entire Gospel and check out the accounts below. They’re bound to bless your soul. Just a tremendous experience to absorb and appreciate the work of The Holy Spirit during The Christ’s earthly journey!
Luke 1:15-17 – John’s arrival foretold by Gabriel an Angel of The Lord
(The Holy Spirit prepares the way for the one who will prepare the way of The Lord.)
Luke 1:35 – Gabriel foretells of the Role of The Holy Spirit will play in Jesus’ Conception.
Luke 1:41-55
John’s Mother, Elizabeth is filled with the Holy Ghost – triggered by the John’s response to the sound of Mary’s voice, while in-utero … which then ignites an explosion of praise and worship by the two women.
Luke 1:67-79
Zacharias, upon naming John as he was instructed, was filled with The Holy Ghost and prophesied over John, detailing his role in ushering in the arrival Jesus’ ministry by “going before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways. To give knowledge of salvation unto his people by the remission of their sins.”
Luke 2: 25-38
The Holy Ghost “was upon” Simeon and reveals that Simeon will not see death until he has seen “The Lord’s Christ.” This sets a number of things in motion, including Simeon’s blessing and prophecy over the Christ child. And he is later joined by Anna who gave thanks unto The Lord and “spake of him to all them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem.”
Luke 3:22
Following Jesus’ baptism, as He was praying, “…The heaven was opened, and The Holy Ghost descended upon Jesus “in a bodily shape like a dove.” For me this represents the seal and initiation for Jesus’ ministry.
Luke 4:1
The presence of the Holy Spirit is inextricable; directly involved in what I consider to be Jesus’ very first act of ministry.
Luke 4:14-19
Jesus returns to Galilee in the power of the Holy Spirit after defeating Satan in the wilderness. He gains regional notoriety, and begins teaching in local synagogues, where He actually testifies that He is the fulfillment of prophecy, and that He is operating under the anointing of The Holy Spirit.
